greg g Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 Had a trip to the wilds of NE PA. today south of Deposit, NY by about 20 miles, to take a look at a 56 Studebaker Pickup. It is a project. Am I considering it well what does a gear head do????? Weigh the good against the bad and ugly. So the good stuff; A good bare frame with ford 9 inch (gear ratio unknown0 but from a T bird with disc brakes. Plumbing looks to be well done. frame is clean and neat and straight. Rear axle is on stock springs with new busings and shocks but with about half the leaves removed from the spring sets. Front axle has what looks like new tier rods etc, and had a Turner disc brake kit with GM calipers. There is also a well mounted dual circuit MC. Engine, looks like it was recently freshend or at least painted, It has a 4bbl manifold. set up for dual exhaust, exhaust system looks recent. Frame had very stout cab mount brackets. Pick bed is straight with good inner metal, exterior is fair with some evidence of ammature body work. the Bad Rear fenders are in replaceable condition. Might be made presentable with work. Cab, rear corners are gone. Drivers side needs floor, front cab corner need work, drivers side running board area needs to be rebuilt, Cab mounts and Door hinge mounts are solid. Front fenders have previous rust repair but need to be done again. Drivers door is servicable, Pass door is replaceable but can be reused with a new bottom skin. Hood is good, inner fenders are good Bumpers are good. The Ugly No radiator, no transmission, no drive shaft. no carb, no carb linkage, dash board is out, door interior panels are out, side glass is out, wireing needs to be redone, but its a truck probably only had 6 circuits. Bed is disconected from frame, and front sheet metel is loose which presents some transportation dificulties but it only a 130 tow, what could happen in that short a distance???? Fellow was asking 1400 but is opend to offers as he wants it out of his garage. So, I'm thinking. Cab corners are available for 105 each, the engine is set up for a GM tranny adapter, and 350's are swap meet and swap sheet fodder. Edlebrock 4bbls are almost everywhere, cable and controls are street rod stuff Quote
Normspeed Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 Price is pretty good. Lots of raw material but lots of work to be done. Quote
Joel Torres Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 i think half of disassembly is done for you all ready you can clean up and paint and modify how you like and not feel bad about ripping apart a complete car built to the specs someone else wanted Quote
