celticsam Posted December 15, 2011 Report Posted December 15, 2011 I have access to an 87 Chrysler 5th Avenue. I am taking the drivetrain, and was looking at the rear. Anyone swap an M-body rear into a 48 Special Deluxe? The car isn't here yet to measure everything, but if I can keep the entire driveline from one vehicle, it will improve compatibility issues and future maintenance headaches. As always, being a newbie, any help is GREATLY appreciated. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 15, 2011 Report Posted December 15, 2011 (edited) I know one was done to the slightly wider D24 body for a good fit...look for the rear gear to possibily be 7.250 ring gear and the ratio of 2.32 and as such if running stock engine tranny..you will not be happy...not enough guts to pull off from stop..now if you take the 318 along with it..you will have an econo set up that will be quite roadworthy. As for width..you can source that from an internet search probably quicker than from someone here who has one to meausre. I have used the even wider 9.250 posi-track in a 52 Plymouth but keep in mind that was done with late model positive offset wheels...it was a great fit..you can use about any thing you want if you work the wheel dimensions into the equation...the ultimate look and such is all about what you want the car to look/perform Edited December 15, 2011 by Tim Adams Quote
celticsam Posted December 15, 2011 Author Report Posted December 15, 2011 Yeah, its going to be a driveline swap, engine to rear, and everything in between. If I can use the disc brake setup, I'll take that, too. The 5th Avenue was hit HARD in the right front, so everything is currently depending on the engine being intact....I find out today or tomorrow. Neil Quote
