Charles Furman Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 Can anyone give me any sound advice for stopping oil leaks that occur at the drain plugs (engine and transmission), or do all 40-50's vehicles leak some oil? Quote
Merle Coggins Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 Drain plug gaskets need to be replaced occasionally. It's usually reccomended to replace them every time the oil is changed. You should be able to match up the drain plug gaskets at your local auto parts store, although you'll probably have to bring in your plug. My transmission drain plug is a pipe plug. If yours is the same you could just use pipe dope thread sealant. Merle Quote
RHDSP15C Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 Get one of those Qwik drain valves. Absolutely not even a drip and real easy oil changes. Quote
grey beard Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 Merle is right - plus, old plug threads wear out sometimes. I'd take the old plug to the parts counter and get a new one AND a couple of spare copper seal washers. JMHO:) Quote
