slogger147
ok I was just wondering if the alternator (which is internaly regulated) from a 1995 dodge dakota can be swaped out for the genarator using the wireing harness that goes with the 1950 dodge b2b streight six? my freinds say yes but they can't give me the correct way to wire it
Rusty O'Toole
Your truck has a 6 volt + ground system while the Dak has a 12 volt - ground. So no, it will not work unless there is more to it than you are telling us. There should be a good auto electric shop in your area that can rebuild your generator for the same or less as buying an alternator. Or, it might only be a regulator you need. Later. I see by another post you have already changed the vehicle to 12 volt - ground. In that case it becomes easy. All you need to do is find the wiring diagram for the Dakota and wire the alternator the same way. I don't have a Dakota wiring diagram handy but if it is like other 1995 Dodge alternators R6 = main power to battery +, R9 = ground, J2 = keyed power, R3= single board engine controller cavity. Plymouthy Adams
1995 Dakota is not internally regulated unless of course you are referring to the internals of the OBC
Rusty O'Toole
If you need to add a regulator get the 1970 up Chrysler electronic solid state regulator. It has 2 wires. #1 the blue wire goes to power. F the green wire goes to field or R3 on the alternator.

F the green wire goes to field or R3 on the alternator. with a twist..as stated the blue wire does go to power and connects to one of the field terminals on the alternator whereas the green wire goes to the other field terminal..the field could care less what wire get where as long as both are connected..(exciting the field)...the green wire does run to the electronic regulator and do ensure that this is properly connected thus use the correct pigtail and do heed the color codes..the regulator must have a good case ground and again be properly connected towork..ie correct pigtail and power connection on the blue wire..
