daimlerchryslerman Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 Has any one put 16 " radial tires onto original tube type wheels ? Any problems or pitfalls ? Cheesr Ray Morris Quote
52B3B108 Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 I have it set up that way with 15" wheels. The only problem I have is the hub caps spin a little and bend over the valve stems. There is an insert piece (I can't remember what the tire guy called it but I think it's used for big trucks)you can buy to put in the hole in the rim to make it more rigid so the valve stem won't bend. I haven't done it yet because it isn't driven that much right now. Quote
Young Ed Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 Ray I have 215-85R16s on my stock type wheels. My truck didn't have stock wheels on it so they are car 16s but I believe they are the same. David dad has those on all his cars with the wheel covers. Some are originals and some are new ones from Andy Bernbaum. Quote
daimlerchryslerman Posted November 1, 2006 Author Report Posted November 1, 2006 Hi there, That is the tire that I want to put on mine. The new tires are tubeless but I am wondering if it's ok to put a radial tube in there . ( Because of the orignal wheels ) Thanks Ray Quote
Young Ed Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 Mine are installed without tubes. The tire shop just used bolt in stems. They've been on there 6 years with no trouble yet. Quote
daimlerchryslerman Posted November 1, 2006 Author Report Posted November 1, 2006 Hi Luke, So did you use the original 16" wheels and then just add tubeless radials? Thanks Ray Quote
