captden29 Posted April 9, 2007 Report Posted April 9, 2007 recurring topic. mine was working fine but froze up over the winter even though i did start the car occasionally. i do live near the ocean. the maintenence info on these talks about lubing these and says the mopar lube is still available. i, obviously did not do this.i am now puzzled as to how to get some penetrating oil on the inside of the manifold to try and loosen this. what i mean is the shaft area closest to the block but on the outside of the manifold. i do not want to drive the car until i can get this thing freed up. as much as i despise these heat risers i would like to have it working. dennis Quote
bob westphal Posted April 9, 2007 Report Posted April 9, 2007 Have you tried to turn it by hand? Some times they will come loose with a little pressure and maybe some gentle tapping if they haven't been stuck too long. Some times the heat from driving will help free it up too. I wouldn't worry about it too much because most of them stayed that way for many years. The only problem that I ever had with one that was stuck closed was that I had vapor locks in hot weather. A couple cloths pins on the fuel line cured that. If it's stuck open you'll have a cold blooded warm up. If it's stuck in between, don't worry. Quote
captden29 Posted April 9, 2007 Author Report Posted April 9, 2007 bob, problem is it is stuck closed. how do i get penetrating oil on both sides of the shaft it rotates on. i would like to free it up rather than more drastic surgery.. dennis Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted April 9, 2007 Report Posted April 9, 2007 Is there a problem if you do not have the weight on the shaft? I lost my spring and mine just moves freely from close to open. I have seen no problems as when I start it up its in the open position anyway. Jon Quote
