olympiab Posted July 20, 2011 Report Posted July 20, 2011 What differential can I use in my 49 Dodge Wayfarfer if I cannot find a good replacement? I have heard that the Volare is a good candidate. Anybody know? Quote
58prostreet Posted July 20, 2011 Report Posted July 20, 2011 I put a '99 ford explorer rear end in my '52 Wayfarer. Have to move the spring perches. I got posi and disc brakes. Also got 4:10 gear. Wished I had gotten 3:73 or 3:50. Bob Quote
james curl Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 On my 48 P-15 I used a 90 Dakota rear end with 3.55:1 gears. had to move the spring pads. would like to have larger rear brake drums and backing plates the Dakota are small in diameter but wide. Quote
Young Ed Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 Some dakotas came with optional larger brakes. I believe its only 1in difference but might help. Quote
teardrop puller Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 I love my Explorer rear end. The 97 has 3.73, posi, and disk brakes. They are cheep and lots of them around. I think I made a mistake torching off the brackets for the sway bar, it would be great to fit a sway bar in the rear. All I did was cut off the Explorer spring perches and welded the stock P18 mounts in the correct position. Quote
