Won the bid..yeah right won, you gotta pay!!..anyway...after securing the item through bidding I go to pay with Paypal...but before I can do that it is asking for my phone number..this is a first time ever for me to get this flag and it is on the e-bay page...question is to you power sellers..what would cause the flag to set?..is there a switch the seller needs to toggle? The seller and I have resolved a method to work around this issue but should this arise again I would like to have some insight as to what is happening..thanks

e-bay customer service had no answer for this and agreed it was information not required by them..if I choose not to complete the transaction they will intervene and prevent any "failure to pay dispute" because I called them first and they have logged my complaint by listing number..hurray for them....

I've so far haven't seen anything asking for a phone no. Something fishy there I presume.

I've gotten this on a few purchases. It may be part of a verification process, I'm not sure. There used to be some options where you could require the seller to be "verified" before hand with ebay/paypal, but I haven't run into it for a while. Doesn't seem to be any big deal, I've never gotten a call yet.

If it bothers you, give a bogus number (like the corporate ebay offices) and I'll bet it will go through with no problem.
