All I've got left is gaskets for the plenum box to the heater cores and it should be ready to go. According to the book this job pays 4.1 hours. Probably take me 3-4 times that if I'm lucky!

Nice work Ed. Thanks for posting. I have one for my '41 and your information and pictures will be a big help. Do you have the kick-panel vents?

Jim Yergin

I have them but they aren't too good. I think one might be intact enough to use with a new actual kickpanel covering. The other duct has a large hole in it. I have a third metal piece with none of the kick panel or duct with it. I'll have to figure a way to reproduce that curved cardboard ducting. I don't think the hardboard I used for my doorpanels will bend like that.

The day is fast approaching. Last night I got 2 bypass hoses from napa that will be cut down into the 4 elbows I need to use the underhood heater tubing. It will be so nice to get rid of that maze of heater hose! I also got a roll of cork gasket material and cut the gaskets that seal the fresh air unit to the two cores. Got a buddy picking me up a set of marine grade SS hose clamps. I put a set of 4 of these on the two hoses for the gas tank fill on my dakota about 8 years ago and they still came off like it was yesterday when I switched my fuel pump last weekend.

Update day 1. Removed all heater hose under hood, both heater units, radio, cowl vent mechanism U channel, glovebox, ignition switch and as I tried to install the fresh air unit I ended up having to remove the wiper motor and choke cable. I got the fresh air box installed and the pass heater back in. The cowl vent is hooked back up and the Uchannel reinstalled. The shorter tube for under the hood was broken so I made a new one out of copper and a T. That and the old pieces are all painted now.

Tomorrow the drivers side heater core and the underhood plumbing should get the car back on the road.

Here's the progress of tonight. Had to quit a little early due to rain. These pieces had a piece of wire on them that I now think was being used to hold up the long run from the lower connection on the drivers side. Planning on making something a little more official looking than a piece of wire.

I was out for a chilly drive today and turned on the heat. Decided this afternoon to dig out my kickpanels and see if I could get them refurbished and installed. Issues right away of course. The drivers side duct looks intact and I believe that with a little paint to seal it and a new kick panel I could use it. The other one that I thought was the pass side is actually another drivers side! So I have no pattern or the metal piece that goes on the heater for the pass side. I believe this dual heater setup was used across the 46-48 mopar line-has anyone seen such a thing as a reproduction duct?

Also found on the '42 cars too. I'm trying to get mine to demist properly, my drivers side blower motor is very slow so that needs to be replaced. I'm not getting much air through the windshield duct so I'm about to go out and check for damage or leaks, the passenger side motor which supplies air to the windshield is very good. I've also got the All weather air control system.
