george c Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 Well all, after a nightmare time with computers dying and then losing the Z axis on the controller board, I decided to try a proof of concept on my big router. Here are a couple of pics along side a drivers side part. The new controller board arrived today so tomorrow I'll get it setup again and we'll try one from aluminum and see if it's as good looking as the wooden model! George Quote
MMcKinney Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 Your efforts have created a very good replica. Nice job! My 53 truck didn't come with any visors or mounts. It just came with the holes indiacting that the visors were there at one time or another. Keep up the great work. I'm interested in any visor part that you make, because I have nothing! 50farmtruck Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 Wow! Very nice work. Are the passenger side parts hard to find? My truck has the mount but no visor. Bryan Quote
george c Posted June 4, 2011 Author Report Posted June 4, 2011 ggdad1951 and myself have been on this project for a while now, mostly my slow downs. In the beginning I disassembled the only visor I had to get dimensions and other technical stuff. So now I need to make two driver and passenger side visors for my two trucks. Thanks to the model making skills of ggdad1951 I have a topnotch model to work from so the process should move ahead now, unless I screw up the hardware again? No promises on time lines, there is still a bunch of issues to overcome. Surprisingly these things are quite complicated in the way they were made, but I think we have most issues worked out at least on paper. More to come as we get further along. George Quote
50farmtruck Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 Very cool. Looking forward to seeing how they progress. Bryan Quote
ggdad1951 Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 george, good to see you are finding your way thru your tooling issues! Looks like a 2nd mill op on the undercut on the back when you mill the holes? Looking good! Quote

Looks like a 2nd mill op on the undercut on the back when you mill the holes? Looking good! Correct, the second operations will be on the manual mill with that side milled parallel to the other with the bore, counter bore and the taper all done in a couple of setups. Then comes the arm? I still haven't torn mine down to figure out what all is in there yet. I figured first part first! George Quote

george c Posted June 6, 2011 Author Report Posted June 6, 2011 Well if you need a model for the arm let me know Once I have mine dismembered I'll let you know. But I hope we don't have to go quite that far. Another slowdown on the controller board, they forgot the connector for the power from the power supply? I have talked to them and they are sending one out on Monday morning. George Quote
