Plymouthy Adams Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 I think this has been identified as the export tag with body trim and paint codes on it...and I don't think it was ever painted...I have never seen one up close and personal myself. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 The red oval is on all the cars..the 3/4 by 3" strip usually is the briggs body tag. the round aluminum tag could be the export tag as I said and have trim and paint codes..now if this is not the case...could be over the years a state assigned vin number, see if this is the case by comparing with your title...usually this number is assigned only when the a-post number is missing..I really cannot tell the exact letters at the end of the tag...I know in So. Car. the issued number sould be like....SCHD ####### Quote
norrism1 Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Both sets of screws are the same in the picture. Looks like it was attached the same time as the top plate. Quote
Guest tagree01 Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Looks just like the tag on my '40 coupe. My tag is printed red, but the paint is very faded. I might be able to get a pic tonight. The number stamped is not the one on my title. Quote
Guest tagree01 Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 The paint is faded, and the only thing I can read is "Dodge Brothers Division of Chrysler Motors". Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 I still thinking this is an export tag... Quote
Guest tagree01 Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 I can just make out above the number says "BODY NUMBER" Quote
Guest tagree01 Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 Does export tag mean my car is foreign? When I concentrate really hard I can hear an accent, but I thought it was just a yankee accent. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 the slight accent could be a kink in the exhaust pipe also...neither of my 1941Dodges have this tag, nor did the 41 Plymouth..my cars do not go back further than that. In the past when a tag like your was in place it was on a export model usually bound for Canada..not sure of Mexico where this car could be easily brought back across the border..see you are in Texas...I truly was hoping for more Canadian car owner to jump in here..we have a few...I have not researched anything on 1940 Dodge as per body/trim configuration that will define it 100 percent. Plymouthy Adams Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 http://www.maxwedge.com/years/1940dodge.html This link may help with body number identification for export...then again..may not Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 Did you notice the smaller tag below says "Dodge Brothers Division of Chrysler Motors" on it below the numbers????? I can't really read the rest. Appears it was red just like the one above. Quote
Guest tagree01 Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 Mine would more likely be Canadian, since it spent the last several years in Illinois. Quote
