Hi! My name is Rox, and I've recently bought a Dodge tray back. The I'D plates identify it as model DG108 or DG1-08, but the guy at NSW RTA TECHNICAL ENQUIRIES told me they had no information on file for this model.

He later found 1 document from Dodge which listed the Dg108 as being rated at 27.34hp !!! One of the Id plates on the truck says 97hp...

Basically he said if I can't provide documentation for this model in Australia, I'll have to have it Engineer Certified for rego, even with the original motor!

Can anyone please help?

The truck has Canadian build plate, "vehicl number 90102836, model DG1-08, GVW 4850lbs, 82hp at 3400rpm, 97hp at 3600rpm",

Chrysler Australia Keswick South Australia import plate "Australian vehicle number DG108-2062",

and Sydney dealership plate, so originally been registered in NSW?!

What year? What motor? Will a "251" Chysler industrial bolt in? What other engine options?

Can anyone help me?!

Thanks :)

Hi Rox good to see anothger ozzie on the site.

As far as the RTA goes you might be better speaking to someone else. The Chrysler Australia plate details should be enough to prove it was an Australian assembled truck. (The trouble with some of these officials is if its not on computer they don`t want to know about it. To lazy to get up and look in the old books). What sort of "documentation for this model" do they need?

The DG series are 1951-52.

The engine in yours should have the T307 prefix. It`s a 218 cu" long block. The 251 industrial will bolt straight in. Does your industrial motor have an engine number?

The 27.34 hp figure is, Rated HP, Its the figure they used for charging the road tax in the day. 97 is Brake HP.

Welcome to the forum Rox. As Tony said, it's always good to see another ozzie on the site.

Good luck with the RTA. I think that they're a little more stringent that Qld Transport up here.

Be sure to post some pictures of your truck so that we can see what you're working on.

I am not sure what the current rules are in NSW these days. 30 years ago in NSW I did get my jeep regoed with only having an old rego sticker.

If its anything like WA now you either need old rego papers or go through and fill out lots of paper work with affidavits basicly stating that the car is not stollen.

Check with your RTA

So, the Motor Vehicles Department is a department from another planet no matter which country it's in on THIS planet?

They are out to lunch here as well. Nothing makes any sense and the rules change when you go to a different outlet a few miles away!
