55 Fargo Posted March 20, 2011 Report Posted March 20, 2011 (edited) Hey all, yesterday my 9 YO Son and I were really bored, we drove into he City ( Winnipeg Manitoba Canada), and took some pics there, then on the way home at Lockport, on the Red River, then to Selkirk Manitoba Boat Yard Museum. Here are the pics, which include Downtown Winnipeg ( once dubbed the Chicago of the north),Haunted Hotel fort Garry, Union Station, and the Business district of Broadway Avenue. RobertKB Posted March 20, 2011 Report Posted March 20, 2011 Still looks too much like winter to me! Are those museum boats/ships on dry land or are they floating in the river? I am guessing floating. Do any of them go out during the summer? Quote
55 Fargo Posted March 20, 2011 Author Report Posted March 20, 2011 (edited) Still looks too much like winter to me! Are those museum boats/ships on dry land or are they floating in the river? I am guessing floating. Do any of them go out during the summer? There on land Rob, tremendous amount of snow this winter, usually every year most snow is gone by now, or by April 1 for sure. The boats are dry docked, museum displays only. The Selkirk water front, ship yards are only a 100 yards or so away. These were Lake Winnipeg boats, hauling people and freight up and down the river, and Lake Winnipeg to Northern points. The passenger excursion boats are moored elsewhere... Now here is a might big shame on the Manitoba Government, the Lord Selkirk 2, built around 1972, was an excursion boat, with restaurant, cabins banquet rooms etc, it has not been decaying for 2 decades. I think it was sold for scrap to a Chinese company, it has yet to be retrieved, it is stuck in the bottom of this shallow channel off the main river. This is a real shame, IMHO Edited March 20, 2011 by Rockwood Quote
