My seventeen year old son has a 1970 Datsun 240Z. He has decided to upgrade the drivetrain with a performance prepared 280Z motor, a 5 speed transmission and a diffirent rear-end ratio. Today we spent the day removing the old differential, transmission and engine. The weather was beautiful here in Virginia, we didn't break anything and I had a great time working with him. Brought back terrific memories of doing the same thing with my dad years ago. Life can be good.

Jim,

That sounds like a lot of fun! We had a 280Z with the wimpy engine and it kicked a bunch of butt so that engine going into a smaller car will definitely push you into the seat. What's he planning to do to the front suspension for the extra weight? Maybe it doesn't need anything but a friend once put a Datsun 1600 into a Bug-Eyed Sprite and it was too nose heavy to to be safe so I ask. Have fun!

So the Dude got his "Cool" car. Nice that your working on it with him after what he said about yours...... Hey on nice days yer supposed to get out and drive the woodie.

Always liked the Z cars. Easy to work on, relatively inexpensive to repair, and simple technology. and with springs and shocks could be a real handling gem.

Randy the 280 engine is ot much heavier than the original 2.4 about 350/375 for the engine.

Great to hear, Jim. I don't think there are a lot of 17-year-olds doing that kind of thing with their Dads nowadays. I know that some of the fondest memories I have of my Dad are working on cars with him and my brothers. Some of the funniest stories came from those times, too.

Greg,

The funny thing is that Sam's new girl friend thinks the woodie is a "cool car."
