as most of you guys know, I am putting my 53 on a Dakota frame. I thought I would share some pics of my progress. I need to order a new radiator for it and I will be ready to start her for the first time. I will do that prior to putting the body back on. I put a 65 Mustang gas tank in the rear. I still am contemplating where to put my spare...:D Thanks to Dan Babb for making my radiator search much easier. Bud

Looks Awesome Bud! 318 or 360? We had so many conversations I can't remember. Looks like you went with a Q-jet. I remember you saying this is for your wife to drive. Is it a pre-75 Carb or a "Mod-Quad". Its a good choice for driveability, but you might look into "stock 350" primaries and Vette secondaries to take advantage of those nice headers. The 2 things that come to mind also are tuning the jets/idle mixture and air door. Take a whole day to get that mixture right and find the "sweet spot". Dont get fooled by the typical 1.5 turns out vacum check deal. The secondary air door is a booger too. The auto tans guys will keep it loose and the standard trans guys will have it tight as a drum. read up on the best way to tune that baby. lol. Just having fun talking out loud...I know your a smart feller, lol, can't wait to see it!!

Tim, it's a 318 bored 30 over with a cam grind that you recommended for a good lumpy idle. The carb is a pre emissions quadrajet that actually came off a mopar motor. I had it sent out to a specialist to be rebuilt and had to give him a long list or required answers pertaining to what kind of motor I had with what percormance mods were done and what kind of driving I would do with it. He tunes the carb to the exact specifications for the motor. We shall see what it does when I get it running. Bud

Lot of Mopar trucks and vans had Q-jets through the mid-eighties, not so sure about pre-emmisson motors. Carter designed the Thermoquad to replace the AVS in or around 1971. It was when the Carter stop making TQ's that Chrysler went to the Q-Jets in the 80's. For fun, look and see if its a Carter made "Q"....it'll have a "MFD by Carter for GM" on the body. In the sixes, GM had trouble keeping up with the demand. The nice thing about the Q-jet is it won't give more then the motor can use. Their range is somewhere around 750-800 cfm...but your 318 may not need more than 600, so the air valve won't ever open all the way. Its not a true race carb (factory set-up), but has a bitch'n tone when the secondaries kick in, and huge aftermarket to make'em race capable. I'm betting you got a great build.:D
