421mike0 Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Help, I'm going nuts trying to figure out what holds the ends of the rubber glass channel at the top where it meets the wind wing and at the bottom where it meets the bolted in door channel. Burnbaum sent me some square spring metal clips but I cannot see any way to attach them. Thanks, Mike:confused: Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 (edited) if they are metal U-shaped with a small tang on the bottom of it..this will affix to the channel and the tang will insert into the holes provided on the door frame...mostly there are only two of these per door glass..this holds it is place while the granish molding of off the door frame and serves also as an anti-rattle clip.. mind you just guessing on how I read you post...a picture of this clip would get you the exact application... this is the animal I am referring to...page 30 part number 2435 http://www.restorationspecialties.com/2009%20Catalog%20ebook/2009%20Catalog%20ebook.pdf Edited March 3, 2011 by Tim Adams Quote
421mike0 Posted March 3, 2011 Author Report Posted March 3, 2011 Hi, thanks. the clips are about one and a half inches long and they are square with a small tang at one end and have two holes in them. There are no matching places in the door frame that I can see. Also at the top where the rubber channel meets the quarter window chrome frame, there does not seem to be any way to attach it unless it just slips over the top of the frame. there are two u-clips that attach in the top of the window frame and you just push the rubber into them and they hold the rubber with spring pressure and small teeth. That much I could figure out. The car came to me with the old channel just hot glued in place and it was a mess. There were no correct parts and the parts book pictures are no help. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 I cannot think of any valid reason anyone would have to glue channel and fuzzies into place.... as your profile is totally lacking of any information concerning your make and model and this thread does not specify..what say you give us a better idea of just what you are working on.. 421mike0 Posted March 3, 2011 Author Report Posted March 3, 2011 (edited) OK, the clip on page 30 clip number 4147 is what I have #4148 looks like it might fit in a place on the frame, but what are the holes for? clip number 2435 is the two u-clips I have and I know where they go. Any help is appreciated. Edited March 3, 2011 by 421mike0 Quote
421mike0 Posted March 3, 2011 Author Report Posted March 3, 2011 (edited) Sorry I thought it said P-15 coupe at the beginning of the thread. This car was a rat rod project from Las Vegas that I paid way too much for. So now that I've got it I'm trying to fix some of the hatchet work on it so I can resell it and get some thing better to work on. It seems someone must have had a wrecked 76-79 Camaro and just put the front clip on this car. It wasn't a pretty job but it runs good and goes well. I'm putting the air conditioning in and trying to figure out the sheet metal wheel wells I'll have to fabricate. Please be patient with me I'm old:D I'm in Gardnerville Nevada and if there is anyone close to me I'd like to talk to them. email huskydogluv@yahoo.com Edited March 3, 2011 by 421mike0 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 overloooked the title line..cannot get the catalog to open at this minute so cannot comment on the clips you listed...will try again later...do not have my paper copy of the catalog available at the moment.. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 the clip you are referring to is the fastening clip on the rear of the channel and locks it into the lower point of the channel in the door at the rear below the door handle..the fuzzy channel must be cut to the exact proper length to secure this to the lowest point and allow the fuzzy channelto just fit behind the vent divider..these are normally riveted to the fuzzy strip..and as you said earlier clip 2435 (2) hols the fuzzy channel to the top of the door frame.. I take back what I said earlier..withthe GM clip..go ahead and glue it... Quote
421mike0 Posted March 6, 2011 Author Report Posted March 6, 2011 OK, I think I'm on the right tract, I would like to know what the correct length is, also some pictures would sure help. Thank you for the reply so far and forgive me for being so slow to understand. Truth is I'm a Pontiac man as you can probable see by my sign in name and I am more into 60's stuff. I did have a 63 426 max wedge car back in the day if that helps:D Thanks for the help. Mike Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 IF you did not keep the old original fuzzy as a guide, which would have had the original clip..thus I am assuming it is no longer there and why you got the new clips..you need to afix the clip to one end of the channel and slid it down and let it latch/lock into place..then mark the end at the butt position at the other end and cut it to length. Do try to get it as snug as possible.. Quote
421mike0 Posted March 7, 2011 Author Report Posted March 7, 2011 The car didn't have the originals or I would be in business. I think the type of clip I got is not correct. The second one (4148 on page 30) looks more like it should fit the slot in the door. I assume the top part of the fuzzy simply fits over the top of the quarter window and is held in place by the window frame and the other two clips. I can see why it would need to be tight in order to stay in place. Quote
