Yes, not the shaft, but the aluminum housing around the shaft. tiny bit bigger, the throwout bearing retainer won't go over it.

But, no strange sounds, shifts like a new one. I took the side cover off and it looks new inside. I'm really pleased.

austin: You just did what I have to do-change the input shaft due to the pilot bearing surface being in bad shape. I've been leery to do it as I'm wondering how the mixed parts would get along with each other. Do you have any gears howling or such? I know each unit is different due to all sorts of variables, but if you are good to go it will give some encouragement to dive into mine.

As you've probably figured out, it wasn't the shaft I changed. But I have on some in the past and I don't think it ever mattered. On a ring and pinion it will, but I have never heard of it mattering in a transmission. I would not be concerned.

You have been outbid on 1952,1953,1954,1955 DeSoto, Dodge, Plymouth OD Relay (250761500920)

Thanks for posting Tim. Oh well, I had hoped I could fly under the radar.

How does the overdrive relay differ from the horn relay?

They look similar and I thought previous research showed them to be similar if not the same autolite part#.

just a thought......

(when I get time) I might even have both to compare the two and I can definitely check my Autolite cross reference book to confirm.

It would be easier to locate the horn relay. (if it is the same and will work for you).

p.s. were you the gentleman at Detroit (POC 80th ann.) that offered his car for a late evening photo shoot? :)

I tried a horn relay on my 55 Chevy pick up with BW OD. The relay lasted less than one hour before it burned up. I do not think horn relays are meant for continuous operation. I now use a Radio Shack relay same as Young Ed's father with no problems.

As james curl said, the difference in the two solenoids may be that the OD can handle the load better. However, I think there are two ways a horn relay could be wired for the OD. Perhaps the best way would be connect the two relay Battery terminals together, then connect the two Ignition terminals together. On the OD relay, connect the Horn terminal to the number 4 terminal of the OD solenoid. Then connect Ground terminal of the OD relay to the "A" terminal of kick down switch which is wired to the "lockout" and govenor. This method should withstand a bigger load than other way which I will not describe. You would think that if the boys at MOPAR could use the same part for both applications, they would have done so.

You can also make do with a $7.00 relay from Radio Shack.

As Young Ed has pointed out, his dad has been using a similar unit in his car with success.

No big deal, he must have had more than one:

You were the second highest bidder on this auction. You only missed it by $1.00. I have a second identical unit and will be happy to sell it to you at your bid price.

I know I could have bid again, but I just didn't want to get into a bidding war.

I have the one that came out of the 53 hardtop with the overdrive, but just thought this looked like a good deal.
