Olddaddy Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 I pulled the drive train today from my buddy Tom's parts car. He is wanting to use the existing radiator, but is concerned about it leaking etc. I plan to have it pressure tested before making a decision. Anybody ever had a new core installed on these tanks? He wants the original look, doesn't want to go to aluminum or modern replacement. Quote
aero3113 Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 (edited) Have the shop use no more than 5 psi to pressure test it. A aluminum radiator painted doesn't look that far off from stock and are much less than a re-core. Edited January 15, 2011 by aero3113 Quote
Olddaddy Posted January 16, 2011 Author Report Posted January 16, 2011 I put an aluminum radiator in my 50 Suburban and it looks pretty much stock. Where did you get the one in the picture? I like aluminum for a radiator, seems right somehow. Quote
aero3113 Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 I bought it on ebay. They changed the design and no longer recess the cap (not sure why they used to do that). Now it looks more original http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1949-1950-1951-1952-2-Row-Aluminum-Plymouth-Radiator-/160512367067?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item255f4859db Quote
mikesinky Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 i had mine recored on my 50 b2b pretty pricey around 450 if i remeber right. they put a bigger tubed core in so i wont have to worry about it stopping up again. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 I had the radiator recored for my truck too. It was just under $400 for a modern tube and fin core. The could have done a honeycomb core but it would have been well over $800. Once it's installed you have to look pretty close, and know the difference, to notice the difference. Merle Quote
