How many threads are required for the same question?

http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=25178

Different thread topic. Wasn't really expecting someone to come into my wanted thread and offer info on interchangeabilty. I basically have someone offering to sell me an item that neither of us knows whether it will work or not, so I'm now asking whether it will fit so that I can complete the transaction.

Not cool to do so? Maybe I can wait a few days and someone who knows the answer, but has no parts to sell may possibly just pop in in case their knowledge is needed? I can live with that I guess. :D

Hmmm.....wonder what's the difference if an overdrive?

Different diameter drum maybe?

The emergency brake part is missing on my overdrive tranny.

I have a spare brake out in the storage building....guess I need

to check to see if it fits.

40-50 Dodge/Plym drums are the same as long as no overdrive.

41-54 DPCD bands are the same.

Bob,

I forget what the difference was but I discovered there was one when by mistake I tried to install the emergency brake drum from a P23 non-O/D transmission on my O/D. Would not work.

Out in my storage building, where all the valuable Plymouth bits and

pieces now reside, I found an E brake band on which someone had

written the number 1274 227 and "35P". I wonder if the last ones

mean it came from a 1935 Plymouth.

I also found another complete band with the actuating hardware

pieces to which the cable attaches. Is there a part number

stamped on that stuff anywhere? That part is kind of rusty and

I couldn't see any numbers at this point.

The number in the parts book for a complete e brake assembly is

870 500.

Thanks Shel and Aero.

Aero.....what does your drum measure from one side to the other?

Yours is not an overdrive....right?

That way I can compare to see if the OD is larger around.

I guess I didn't get the e-brake band with the trans when I bought it

12 or 15 years ago. Hadn't paid any attention to the tranny over the

years.....it's just been sitting on the garage floor back in a corner.

Am getting closer to wanting it to be installed. Never too late to learn....

it just may cost more nowadays.

Bob, that # is for a 50 Dodge truck:)

In comparing that truck band with one mounted on the activating hardware,

which I presume came from a car,

it seems to be the same diameter with similar attaching parts.

So, I would say a pickup band would work on a car.

I thought the last number the previous owner wrote on the band

might have said "35P", but now I think he was saying "3 Sp"...for

three speed transmission.

I measured across the drum on the R10 and it is also real close to

6 inches. So it may be a mounting issue instead of a size issue.

Will have to drag the tranny out of it's corner and esperiment with

the e brake band I have on hand.
