hey all, i just acquired a 1946 special deluxe the other day, i love it so far. minor rust around the bottom of trunk and drivers side floor board. wont run but motor is free. seats are tore to shreads. door panels fall apart when you touch them no headliner at all. no brakes, pedal goes to the floor and just stays there! put some brake fluid in master cyl. pumped awhile but nothing. front drivers and passenger windows cracked. lots of the wiring either burnt or rotted off. the gas tank looks good but full of holes, worked on that today tho. didnt break but one of the straps taking the tank off. not sure if the color is brown or if its just that rusty. didnt come with any keys so none to the ignition, doors, or glove box. none of the wheels match. all 4 tires are rotten. 2 empty holes left of ignition switch ? an empty hole in center of dash by the windshield? an eyeball shaped piece of chrome on dash over steering wheel with a little hole in the center of it? did these cars come with blinkers? mine dont even have a blinker switch in it. i think the only brake light it has is the one in the center, right? my gosh reading back over this my new car sounds like a basket case lol. sure does have a cool spotlight on it tho. my wife says its as ugly as pootin in church.

Hello Mr Patch....welcome.

Sounds like your new car just needs a little going over:D

The hole on top of the dash, in middle, is for windshield wiper knob

which has an L shaped rod going down to activate the wiper motor,

which hopefully is still there. If missing, it Should be in that location.

The empty holes to left of the ignition switch are for heater and

defroster controls......pull out knobs/cables.

The eyeball above the speedometer is the high beam indicator light.

When new with it's lense in place, it would show red when the brights

are on.

If the car is a 47 model, it could have had either 15 or 16 inch wheels, I

think. If I recall correctly, they changed sizes during that model year.

48s all had 15s. The rims should have the little clips around the center

to hold on the hubcaps.

Hope this answers at least some of your questions.

Ebay, swap meets, and some online vendors can be sources of

many parts. There is also a parts for sale section of this forum site.

Wiper knob........

That flat plug in the dash is for use if you installed a windshield washer

system that was available as aftermarket. A tube came up thru the

dash, then a hole was drilled to place a nozzle on the outside.

Just curious.....what part of the country are you located?

Don't sound like yours is much different than the rest of us started with and probably better than most. Welcome always glad to see an old girl saved from the scrap yard.

Welcome to the gang. Get a parts book and manual. They are invaluable. Use the search function as your question has probably already been answered. It can be difficult to find an answer there sometimes so then ask. I have spent many hours just reading from the first post forward as time permits. Parts can be hard to find and in some cases darn near imposssible. Many parts are still to be found in your local parts store if you have someone who will work with you. Going resto, driver, rod or what makes a big difference. Enjoy.

Thanks for the welcome and the websites guys! I hate to see anything produced before the 70s go to the scrap yard. Had a guy that lives down the road aways give me an old gas pump and grille out of an old truck he was going to haul for scrap! Old rat im going for a driver no way i can i afford to fully restore her. Anyway thanks again for the welcome.

Welcome! Sounds like you've got you're work cut out for you but that's a great car you have there. What are you're plans? It's sounds like a major restoration is in the works if you've got the space to take it apart that far.
