dbcooper292 Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Looking to replace the front bearing in my 49 three speed trans, it would be a pretty simple job except it has a shield on one side which keeps too much oil from going through it. Roberts says they can't get it anymore, anyone got thoughts? DB Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Try these folks. http://www.futuretransmissionparts.com/index2.ivnu Quote
Dave72dt Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Those shields will pop right off with a small screwdriver. Quote
dbcooper292 Posted November 24, 2010 Author Report Posted November 24, 2010 Meaning you think I could snap it into a new bearing that hasn't got a shield? (of course I'm not talking about the snap ring around the outside, but the flat 'washer-like' plate that goes between the inner and outer races. thanks. Quote
Dave72dt Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 Probably can if the old shield isn't damaged while removing it. Often they'll get a small kink where the screwdiver was used to pry, but done carefully... The seal part of the shield is on the inside race and is a light press fit on the outside. If you damage the seal, you can minimize the leakage that may get by it by placing that area on top when installing in the transmission. Quote
Don G 1947 Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 I just bought one last week. Try John at Northwest Transmission 800-327-1955. Don Quote
maverick Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 motion industries has all the transmission bearings. napa and carquest can get all the bearings except ones for the countershaft. im currently in the process of re-building mine and can see now that the oil seals will be fun to find.
