BobT-47P15 Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 Was reading on the HAMB......a fellow in Haarlem, The Netherlands has bought a 1941 Plymouth coupe and is further customizing/rodding it. He removed the Chevy engine that came in it and is installing a Hemi. He bought a set of tires (look like radials) this summer. You think they're expensive here - look what they have to pay over there.......a quote lifted from his thread: 4 Cokers 950, shipping to Holland 350, import duties/taxes/handling charges 600. Thats 1900 usd before mounting and balancing them. So I'm looking at roughly 500 bucks per tire. It's a good thing us guys here in Europe are as enthusiastic as you guys!!! Posting this for the benefit of anyone who likes the old Mopars and not offended by a custom/rod treatment. There are quite a few pages to his post by now. His info might be of some benefit to anyone here who is considering modifying their old Plym. Link to his thread: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=463453 Pic of the car......... Cpt.Fred Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 i am following that thread for quite a while now, he does awesome work. i already liked the car when he started the build (your pics) and i am curious to see the outcome. it's going to be pretty radical, but personally i do not like all the modern parts on the car - but then again, if you want to have a hemi engine as brutal as his one in that car, you'll have to modify nearly everything if you want to ride the thing on the road and not just die in there... even if one doesn't like the project itself, the accuracy and workmanship have to be admired. and the prices... well, what can i say. i'm suffering with him, same thing here in germany. PatS.... Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 Well, I just read all 27 pages of this thread and it sure is a great read. He's doing a great job on it. I like how the nose is slanted back a bit. I also like how his wife let the big beautiful hemi into the house for safe keeping...that's an understanding wife!!! Quote
Andydodge Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 Bob, I have also been following this on the HAMB, you mention the tyre cost........I have Coker Radials on my 41 Plymouth, 195/75 x15 and 235/75x15 on the front & rear, they cost me $1700.00 Australian plus another $80.00 to have them fitted & balanced onto the 15 x6 & 15 x 7 Wheel Vintique Chrome Smoothies....they cost $700.00 for the 4 rims so I have $2480.00 in the wheels and tyres..........lol...........and yep I do like them and look after them........lol.........attached pic...........regards, andyd Quote
