Chester Brzostowski Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 This sounds like one of my adventures, and of course the worst possible hole to access. Good luck. Chet… Quote
Young Ed Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 I'm curious here. I only recall 4 bolts on my tranny? Do they really use 6? Quote
Normspeed Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 Mine has 6 holes but the bottom two aren't used with my bellhousing. Shel, I've made nice clean holes in new gaskets (like thermostat housing gaskets) by placing the round end of a ball peen hammer over the hole and tapping it with another hammer. Gotta wear eye protection for sure, hammers can shatter. You might be able to do something similar with a steel rod that is a hair bigger than the bolt, with a slightly rounded end. You could put it in until it hits the gasket, with the tranny snugged up, and tap it while rotating the rod until it cuts the hole. It has to be oversized enough that it doesn't go into the threaded hole or it could mess up the threads. For curiosity, are all 4 of your trans bolts the same length? My 53 had one shorter one, at the lower left near the clutch pivot. Quote
