Its quite surprising how many of these cars are hidden away and turn up here. There is a good amount of pics on the web site and well worth a look at how we love our Mopars here in OZ! So go to www.chryslerclubvic.org.au Enjoy! Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 (edited) Boy, some nice cars there, Thanks for posting. Are there any 46-48 Plymouth or Dodge convertibles around? What do you make a hood trim from for a woodie.....why, wood of course. Edited October 21, 2010 by BobT-47P15 Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 It looks like some cars are Plymouths and Dodges reversed, like in Canada... Quote
Edward Roberts Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 What a great Sunday... a fun assortment of cars and a B-24 Liberator to boot! My grandfather - the one who taught me to love working in the shop and on cars - was a B-24 pilot back in the war. There are so few of these birds around... sure do love seeing another one getting done. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 Now, this is an unusual looking car (to me).....what might it be? I rather like it. Some resemblence to a 56 Plymouth in the U.S. Quote
louie the fly Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 Now, this is an unusual looking car (to me).....what might it be?I rather like it. Some resemblence to a 56 Plymouth in the U.S. Chrysler Royal AP2. The AP was for Australian Production. The body shell was the same as the 53-56 DePlyDo here but with restyled front & rear. Some had a V8. Quote
Roger the Dodger Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 It looks like some cars are Plymouths and Dodges reversed, like in Canada... Thats my car had it a few months now. Runs really well. Very happy with it. Roger. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 Well, Roger, wouldn't you know it......I picked a car at random, and it belongs to someone on here. I'd say you got a really nice vehicle there. Is it true that all old cars have to be right hand drive, so any coming from the U S have to be changed? Quote

Is it true that all old cars have to be right hand drive, so any coming from the U S have to be changed? left hand drive is now OK Bob but there is a year cut off which I am not sure about. I am sure another aussie on here will fill us in on that. But new cars have to be converted and go through compliance. Roger. Quote
Andydodge Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 Generally speaking the steering conversion date is 30 yrs old, ie, if its a 1979 LHD car then it can now get normal full rego and be able to be used as a regular car, however if its a 1981 model then to be used as a regular car then it has to be converted to RHD, although if you are a member of a specialist/collector car club then you maybe able to have it on a Ltd rego scheme that allows use to go on club runs, evenets etc and still be left hook.........there are 6 Oz states and 2 territories, all have their own specific regulations however as a rough guide this info applies to all, btw these regulations apply to a stock standard car, if it was LHD with say a wheel charge, ie , mags, it might be o/k in one state, say New South Wales, but as an example it may not be o/k for the wheel change in another, ie say South Australia.........its a fun time..........andyd Quote
Andydodge Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 BTW Chrysler Royals used as mentioned the 53/54 Plymouth body shell with 55/56 Plymouth front & rear guards, the complete chassis, suspension was 54 Plymouth, there were 3 series, AP1 in 1957/58, AP2 in 1959/60 and AP3 in 1961/62, all were the same basic body/chassis, but the AP1 & AP2's used single headlights, the AP3 used stacked quad lights, all had fins, getting progressively larger, there was also Utes and a very small number of wagons, say 15-20 maybe......apart from the Utes All Royals were 4dr sedans, no 2drs, h/tops or converts were made...engines were the 25" ex Canadian via UK "Kew" six with originally a 3 speed with or without O/Drive, also the Powerflite/Torqueflites were used, V8's were also available as an option, there is some indication that a 303ci version of the Poly may have been used but the AP3 definately used a 313 version, all V8's were 2 barrel, and Auto's, NO 4barrels or manuals were available.......I have a 1962 313 AP3 V8 in my 1940 Dodge, having wrecked a nice clean Royal for just that purpose in 1973.........andyd Quote
