48-50 grill bars - stainless vs painted

Were all the 48-50 grill bars made from stainless or where the painted ones made from a different material? I am needing the lower two pieces and was wondering if the painted ones were stainless underneath or whether I had to find unpainted versions..

thanks, how about the piece on the hood, is that available in steel. If so I think I will look for a complete set that I can send to the chrome platers

So, what is painted? Guess I don't know whereof you speak. On a P15 46-early 49 Plymouth, all actual grille bars are stainless. The piece behind them onto which they mount, is painted to match the car. Sincerely, Mr Dummy.

Bob, on the 48-50 dodge trucks, some of the trucks I have seen have the three grill bars painted and some with stainless.

All of the hood pieces that I have seen have been stainless, even on trucks with painted steel grill bars

The nose piece on the hood is always stainless.

And all of the upper bars on the hood are stainless. I think if you want the chrome look get a set of stainless bars, that would most likely be cheaper then having steel ones chromed.

1948 and 1949 were all stainless. I have seen 1950 models that were both, although most people say 1950 was painted body color with cream or white pinstripe that goes from side to side but not on the center piece that protrudes. Painted pieces are steel, not stainless. Hood piece is always stainless. Hope it helps.
