it is likely that the serial number is probably located on one of the "A" pillars in a location similar to the P15. If the number on the documnets strts with and "S" it is likely the engine number.

There are no documents. A fellow bought a piece of property and it was in a barn. He's not familiar with it, and I'd like to run the numbers before going to see it and try to a any registration history on it. I was hoping to get him enough information that he can get a vin (and hopefully not the body code or some other nearly useless number) and I could have someone at the dmv do a search.

By '55 I don't think they were using engine numbers.

In this picture of a desoto for sale, there appears to be a tag on the

driver's door frame.....
