I just had an email exchange with one of the techincal guys at the Airtex company and he informed me that they are no longer making the the AC588 mechanical fuel pump that we use in our cars and trucks.

I know other people have been looking for these pumps. He also stated htat they even do not have any replacment pumps. I have been doing some search and it seems as if the Carter M847 is the replacement pump. But the carter pump does not come with the glass sediment bowel.

I like the glass bowel because it helps to collect and dirt and you can remove and clean it. HAs anyone used the Carter M847 pump on their cars or trucks. Since this pump does not have the removeable bowel than you definately need to have a fuel filter on the fuel line somewhere and would suggest that it be at lest prior to going into the carb.

Just look at my post on how the ethinol ruined my electric fuel pump and the inline filter caught all of the small pieces of rubber diaphram material.

If anyone has found a good replacement pump please post what you have found and where you purchased the pump and approx cost. I am now starting to see that the things that we took for granted that we always thought would be available are not not being maded.

My suggestion Rich to all, is to rebuild the fuel pump or send it in for rebuild with quality ehtanol resistant rubber.

I believe Antique Auto Cellar has the appropriate kits.

On that note I have both types of fuel pumps, glass bowl and non, I am currently running a non-glass bowl type. This fuel pump is 70s circa, so far no issues with enthanol blended fuels, Manitoba Gasoline has 12 % ethanol ratio in regular fuel, there is none in Premium Gas, and slightly less in mid grade gasolines.......
