Jerry,

Not sure if you are looking for a response or not, but those machines were used to true the arc of a brake lining after it was attached to the shoe. They created a lot of dust and since brake shoes used to be made from asbestos the machines fell out of favor and the industry learned how to make the shoes correctly the first time.

Other than being of modest historical interest, about the only thing they could be used for today would be as a lathe for creating precise circles of a limited size, which is probably why it isn't going for a lot higher price.

I use mine quite a bit for all the older fords and mopars I do brake jobs on. The shoes really need to be arched to make a fast and correct high/firm brake pedal on all these older anchor pin brake systems. The shoes need to be machined to fit each drum. Asbestos isn't an issue much these days at all as it's not used. I have the dust collector for it but don't care to use it. Easy to do these old MoPar brakes with all the right tools!
