Juday1951 Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 I might be overlooking something extremely easy here, but this has me frustrated. I'm trying to take the door and window handles off from the inside, but I can't figure out how they detatch to allow the panel behind it to be removed. Help would be appreciated. Thank you, Kevin Quote
Tom Skinner Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 Kevin, Push back the escuteon plate (round ornamental rosett) at the handle with a screwdriver or flat metal and it will reveal a handle shaft with a small tapered pin in it. Knock the pin out with a punch or nail and slide the handle off the shaft. They make a tool for just this application but it always sells on ebay for too much $30-$50. I always do it like I just explained it to you here for free. Tom Quote
Juday1951 Posted April 19, 2010 Author Report Posted April 19, 2010 When you say "push back," do you mean towards the door, or towards you? I got a screwdriver and a pry bar back behind it and pushed it towards me, but it felt like it was spring driven. I didn't see any type of pin there to punch out and I was afraid if pried too hard, it would break. I just don't see any way to get that darn thing off of there... Quote
Merle Coggins Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 Yes it is spring loaded. You need to push the inner ring back toward the door. Get your screwdriver between the handle and the inner ring of the escutcheon and push it back. This will expose the pin. I use a needle nose pliers. Slide the jaws up on either side of the handle and it will push back the escutcheon evenly. Then use a small pin punch, nail, or small phillips screwdriver and push the pin out. Merle Quote
