woodie49 Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 Getting ready to install my OD tranny, a couple last minute things: 1. I changed out the gasket for the drive pinion retainer and see in the manual that they refer to re-installing the "screw grommets". None are present on my unit, just the retainer and the screws and locks. Can anyone tell me what these look like and is there a reasonable substitute? It almost seems like they provide some protection from overtightening? 2. On my unit, I have what looks like a nuetral safety switch (but it is not a HyDrive). It is located in the transmission body not the shifer body, but in the same general area where the Nuetral Safety switch would be. In my manual, on page 206, figure 6, it has a picture of the area and in THAT picture, there is a large Hex Head bolt in the same location. In the blow-up in the front of the chapter, it is not shown at all. Camera batteries are dead, so I don't have picture. Trying to figure out what this is. Maybe reverse lights switch? Quote

The screw gommets are small rubber O-Rings on each of the 3 retainer bolts. They seal up the counter bored screw holes in the bearing retainer. Bob Quote
woodie49 Posted April 11, 2010 Author Report Posted April 11, 2010 Bob, Thanks for the info. Does this mean I can use a regular O-ring that properly fits the bolt? Not a special part? Quote

Size the O-ring to fot the 5/16"X18 bolt tread and to fit the counter bore recess in the retainer and some sealant and you are good to go. Bob Quote
