Well guys, not sure how many of you remember me but I am the young guy (22 now) who owns the 46 Chrysler Business Coupe in North Carolina. I met a lot of you at the Concord meet you guys did at the local hotel near Lowes Motor Speedway. I have been away for about 1 1/2 years but back and ready to start working on my 46 Chrysler. I know this is not a Chrysler site but I do not care for the Chrysler Yahoo site setup so prefer to come here.

Anyways I figured I'd come back in here to let everyone know I am back and to expect me to start posting more often. ;)

Thanks!

Those Chrysler business coupes are pretty cool! There were not

many buyers of 3 passenger cars that long. I'd like one, but sure

don't see them. I have a '47 DeSoto club coupe, I don't seem much

different in the design than my P15

Hey Shawn, I'm fairly new here and even though I have a 48 Desoto the guys have not shunned me off the site yet....;):D

I'll do some searching and see if I can find some info on your car in the archives...or maybe post some pics and info about it for those of us that are new here.

No progress yet. I bought a distributor rebuild kit and many other parts for it to at least get it started but not sure where any parts are anymore. My parents recently separated and my father took most of the tools with him and moved a lot of stuff around. I am not sure where half the stuff is anymore and I do not really have many mechanic tools to work on the vehicle anymore. I have a few basic hand tools and most body tools since paint and body work is what I did for a living ever since high school and a few years after graduating so I do have a lot of that kind of stuff. Body tools wont really help with mechanic work though...

I am hoping to get this thing running this summer to see what it will need to get driving on the road. I am sure the brakes need to be completely redone and to rebuild the stock brakes is going to be way more than I can afford.

Welcome back, that sure is one nice looking Chrysler, good luck with it.

I have had my 1940 Plymouth business coupe for almost 22 years, I did or had done what needed to be done as I could afford it, as my wife and I raised 4 boys at the same time. Just remember, don't break the bank as you are working on the Chrysler, and it will all come together just fine.

Good luck,

Bob

A straight eight would be an interesting motor for the car. There are four Packard 327s in a local salvage yard. I rarely see the Chrysler 8s, which is

similar to the Packard.

Thanks guys. Mike that would have been awesome to haul it up there. I was not able to because I started my new job that next day and I couldn't take my first day of my new job off.:P

I wish you guys did another show here again though, that was fun. Out of all the cruise in's, shows, and club meets I have been to, that was the best one for me where I had the most fun.

Tim,

I was talking to my old boss about a straight 8 the other day. He said he had one in a Buick I think (maybe it was an Olds I do not remember) and said that thing was very heavy but had a lot of torque and a strong motor.

Buicks used a straight 8 up until 1953.

There was also a V8 available in 53.

Not sure about Olds, except the Rocket 88 V8 appeared in 1949,

I think.

Thanks for the info. Update for the Chrysler:

I went to NAPA today to check on getting wheel cylinders. They are about $40 for the fronts each (need 4) and then $72 for the backs. I am going to try and rebuild them because I cannot see spending that much money for wheel cylinders. Eventually I want to go disc brakes on the car all around but right now I need to get this thing driving around for the summer to work the bugs out.

Instead of doing this they have rebuild kits and if I can hone the wheel cylinders I have on it now then I will rebuild the stockers. Where do I get a honer for this thing at?

Thanks for any info!

Shawn try Rock Auto, great prices, Dormans cheapest, Raybestos more expensive. Thhose Napa prices are higher than Rock Auto.....

Thanks for the tip, I forgot about Rock Auto. They usually have great prices and 5-10% off discount codes if you can find them online.

I am going to look into them and see about getting brake hoses and wheel bearings as well.
