6volt positive to negative change.

I want to convert to negative ground to be able to add sound to my p15, I have read about the change, but have not satisfied myself as to what needs to be done to the charging system. If the generater needs reflashing, which wires, and how? This car is my only cold weather transportation and I don't want to damage anything. I don't want to have to ride my motorcycles in the cold winter here in Florida. :D

for charging, i just used a modern alternator instead of the generator. one creative thing i saw once, somebody took a piece of pipe and mocked it up to look like the generator and stuffed the alternator inside.

Hey mate,

I kept my system the same and bought a 6 volt to 12 volt converter box (changed polarity as well) for about 25 bucks. Mounted that and a stereo under the seat and left everything else stock. Didn't need to change anything in the engine compartment. Total cost was about 280, as I bought some $$$ speakers that high watt maxes to crank when the convertible is on the freeway. You can pay to have your stock radio converted, which would be a similar cost. Otherwise when I had the 49 Plymouth sedan I ran cheap computer speakers that took a 6 volt power supply and left them on the seat when I was driving and put 'em in the glove box when the car was parked. Worked great, used my portable cd player as the audio source. Think I paid like 4 dollars for the speakers at a thrift store. Nice as I didn't have to do any mods or anything. Let us know what you do, best of luck!

The reason I want to change polarity is to be able to have neg ground accessories added, radio & cruise control. I haven't found which regulator that Plymouth used, and need to know how to polorize the generator.
