bed materials

i am just "patching up" my truck, and once it is done, it will be a work truck for me, so i am wondering, what is the best choice for doing the bed? it needs to be sturdy, and i would rather no add more crossmembers, so what other options are there?

I put a sheet of pressure treated plywood in both of my trucks until I get around to fixing up the bed. It was quick & easy and can take a beating.
