Joe Flanagan Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 The paint on my temp gauge needle is flaking off and I would like to repaint it. Has anyone done this and if so, can you recommend any particular paint? Quote
greg g Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Joe I redid the ones on my studebaker. I visited my wife's and daughters nail polish stash and found a pearlescent orange. Not quite stock but very visible. Don;t kow how it will hold up to the sun over the years but am I worried???? Quote
IronMike Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 The last gauge needles I repainted were on a 66 bronco half cab. I used Testors brand model paint. The orange was a dead match for the factory color. I just slid a sheet of paper between the needle and gauge face and painted it with a small brush. The Vehicle was my daily driver for about 3 years, usually with the top off and the paint looked like new when I sold it. Mike Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted February 6, 2010 Author Report Posted February 6, 2010 That's the method I plan to use, a sheet of paper behind the needle so I don't get any paint on the gauge face. Got some white fingernail polish from the wife. Will see if it matches. Quote
thrashingcows Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 Nail polish is a good choice since it is an enamel paint. Great idea though to put a sheet of paper down first behind the needle and then paint. Quote
