p24-1953 Posted January 19, 2010 Author Report Posted January 19, 2010 talked to george today, and he agrees that the govener might be a little out of wack, but if it works okay in second and with the switch i might just leave it. i wonder where i could get a new govener? first of all i need to get the speedo working again so i can really tell the cut in speed. greg g Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Governor is just a mechanical deal with a set of points to make the conection. could just need a little cleaning and some dressing up of the points. tell you how the overdrive works, and perhaps that will lead you to the answer you want: The overdrive kick-in speed is set by the governor, which is mounted in the back of the overdrive unit, the mushroom shaped object that is threaded into a hole on the side of the back of the overdrive case - it has one or two wires going to it. It is a simple flying weight spinning device, which is driven by the worm gear on the output shaft of the overdrive. When the weights are spinning fast enough, there is an electrical switch contact inside this device which grounds a wire, and grounding that wire tells the overdrive solenoid to pull in. or you can bypass the governor connect the two wires together and run the circuit through a switch to ground. Similar to Petes deal. then you should be able to control it as you like. Quote

I bet if you pulled it, gave it a good cleaning, and tried it again, it would be fine. I read somewhere how to calibrate them too, maybe it was in the Borg Warner manual? Pete Quote
