Tim Keith Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Anyone read the Street Rodder article on Low Pressure Press forming? Looks as if it could be an practical way to form metal parts on the cheap. They use an arbor press and simple hand made dies to form metal. http://www.streetrodderweb.com/tech/0911sr_low_pressure_press_forming/sheetmetal.html Quote
Frank Blackstone Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 Good article Keith I am always looking for ways to bend metal. If there are more articles in Street Rodder as mentioned in the article I may have to subscribe to yet another car mag. The pile of mags is getting unmanageable and one New Years resolution is to clip the info and pass on the mag to non subscribers. Quote
randroid Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 Folks, Good Lord, another project! Seriously, that's an interesting article. As Frank sort-of said, it's always nice to learn different ways of doing a job. I doubt I'll ever need to manufacture a fender but I'm designing a hydraulic wood splitter and I might give it some wiggle room so I could replace the blade with a die. My neighbor is a welder by trade and he and I are going to design the finished product and I bet that, since he's a metal kind of guy, he'll be interested in seeing the plans for that 'H' frame press. Thanks for posting. -Randy Quote
dezeldoc Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 I scan all the info from the magazines into the computer then i have a file for it so it is real easy to find what i need. Quote
Tim Keith Posted January 2, 2010 Author Report Posted January 2, 2010 My P15 Business coupe has some rust problems in the lower trunk. I thought if I could form reinforcements that did not look cobbed this might be a way to do it. I'm not wanting another rat rod, nor do I have a big budget. Most of the men who do these type of endeavors successfully are older and graying and apparently have had lots of patience learning the skills. Some of the finest furniture was made with simple hand tools. Quote
