claybill Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 times are tough. harley had to close the buell line..low sales. they are also selling their interest in italy's M V Augusta. bill Quote
martybose Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 That's a bummer; the Buell's were the only Harleys I really liked! Marty Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Actually, this has been in the news around here for several weeks or a month or more, since Harley is a major employer here. Don't worry about loosing the style of the Buell. It's either going to still carry that name, or they are going to make it and call it a Harley of some type. Forgot which, but it will remain. They are also coming out with a lot of different types of bikes that are similar to the foreign sport bikes, in addition to the conventional Harley's. So...........have no fear, "Harley is here to stay". Quote
Merle Coggins Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 No it's not Norm. Buell is no more. They are closing down the East Troy plant. 80 manufacturing jobs gone along with 100 salaried personnel. (sounds like they were a little heavy on management) They've cut around 1000 jobs already this past year. http://www.jsonline.com/business/64352232.html http://www.buell.com/en_us/ The one article says that they are also considering closing down the York, PA assembly plant. Norm's Coupe Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Merle, I know they are closing the East Troy plant. As mentioned there was an article in the Business section of the Journal not long ago. That's where I read about them still making the Buell. But.........it may just be called a type of Harley when they do. Production would move to some other Harley plant. Actually, they are cutting about 850 jobs nation wide in addition to the previous cuts, according to that article, plus shutting down the Capitol Drive plant for about two or three months to cut back on their stock of bikes.
