Jim Saraceno Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 I'm getting ready to rebuild the u joints on my '35 Plymouth. The first thing I have to do is to press out the old U-joint pin. Is this something that can be done at home? If I get a bottle jack press from Harbor Freight, can I drive out the old pin and drive in the new one with a tolerance of .006"? Or should I just bring it to a drive shaft place or machine shop? Quote
JohnS48plm Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 I pressed mine out on an arbor press at work. When I pressed the new pin in I used an adjustable square to check the measurement. Originally the shops that did this work had a jig to press the pin to the correct measurement. Mine didn't vibrate so I guess it was close enough. Maybe some of the other members will have a better way to do it. Quote
