hkestes41 Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 I talked to the owner of this Desoto while at the HAMB Drags. During our conversation the subject of windshield and rear window rubber seals came up. He passed along a tip for an alternative product to use for this application. He said he used the window seal from a John Deere Combine cab. https://jdparts.deere.com/partsmkt/document/english/featbene/WindowandDoorSealsandTrimGuide5.pdf He said it was slightly smaller than the stock rubber seal but that he just added some silicone seal to the channel prior to install and in 2 years has had zero leaks. It was evening in the hotel parking lot when I was looking at the rubber so I did not get a real good look at it but from what I saw it looked good and did not look significantly smaller than stock. Here is the kicker, he said a roll of the rubber is like $20 and will do the windshield and rear window. I have not used this just going on this guys recommendation. Just thought I would pass it along in case someone is at the point of replacing their seals. If you do give this a shot let us all know how it turns out. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 There are some generic rubber out there that is sold based on style of application, whereas pinch weld is our need and then the next is thickness of the glass to be installed the other..and if you do not have reveal molding on your car and feel comfortable is getting a good bond at the joint and protect/overstuff for shrinkage..then yes this stuff is availabe at a lower cost..lot of local glazers have rubber of this nature on hand..we were able to walk in and walk out of our local store with rubber to set the corner glasses of a Chebbie pickup cab.. the JD link could be of real interst here for a budget operation and non point gleaning vehicle on the show circuit.. thanks Quote
