Plymouthy Adams Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 working a gas tank is not fun, reworking is less fun..I do believe that in the long run the new tank, though slightly different may be a good route.. Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 Yeah, I spent $215.00 plus tax on mine from TanksInc. and has been great ever since. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 (edited) I have the original tank yet for the 41 dodge..very pristine given the age and all...on moving it to a cradle and shifting cneter for true dual exhaust routing...I primed the unit Rustoleum rusty metal primer and finished with catalized Rustoleum gloss black enamel.. though not readily visible from the rear..the shifting made the dual exhaust easy and neat... radioguy7 Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 I had the tank on my M37 power wagon sealed, and I was supposed to wait like 2 weeks for the stuff to cure before filling it with gas. Well I pushed it by a week and ended up paying for it. kept finding little red spots on the driveway!! The sealer they used was like this red gel that was supposed to harden rock hard. Quote
P15Mike Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Curious ... what is the correct color for the gas tank ? Mine has pretty much , flaked/rusted/grimed/rubbed off , you name it .I went to the main page and it didnt have anything in reference to the tank . Any of you guys have a nice clean one with the orig paint still evident ? Thanks Mike Quote
P15Mike Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Gas tanks were not normally painted. Even on new cars they are not painted. However' date=' some do have the undercoating on them, and of course that is black. Mine had the original undercoating on it when I took it off.[/quote']Norm , your probably right . Mine looks to may have been black at some point on the bottom surfaces ( ie.. undercoat but is very thin ) . My surface rust issues are on the upper surface and side ( ie very little access for undercoat ) certainly makes sence . Thx Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 this is mine as from an original condition car from Kansas..it appears not to have been painted at any time prior to my reconditioning of the unit..pictured sitting on the cradle that I made to shift the tank centerline..the tank looked like new metal on the inside..the patina was very light, no pits or scale.. P15Mike Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Thx Tim , good info ... What is that tank from ? My drain plug is in the center and alot flatter . Other than that they look almost indentical .... Wish my tank was clean on the inside .. Thx Mike Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 this tank is the original tank from a 41 Dodge from the mid west...as I have two 41 Dodge vehicles one has a reconditioned tank the other was as you see but pristine inside..I could care less about the lined tank.. Quote
