Went to buy oil today, looked at Chevrons Diesel 15 W40, and Rotella T 15 W 40, both are now for the newer emissions, so decided against them.

I drove around to a few stores, finally bought Castrol GTX 20 W 50 again, hoping this oil is of the right quality for my old flat tappet engine.

Anyone else using Castrol 20 W 50 in there flatties.....Fred

I use the Canadian Tire brand 20 W 50 and have for years in all my flatties with no problems whatsoever. Just drive your car and enjoy it.:P

Been using detergent oil right form the time I started running this engine again, about 4 years ago.

I had no sluge in the valve chambers, but the oil pain has goop in the bottom.

Will this come back to haunt me?

I plan to pull oil pan for cleaning real soon, as she leaks good too, prpbably the rear main seal leakes, but not planning on replacing it.........Fred

Which brand do you use from CT Robert, the formula 1 or Supreme in the red containers.

The Motomaster Diesel 15 W 40 is made by Shell, wonder if is the same as the Rotella T made by Shell.........Fred

Fred, I use the Supreme 20 W 50. Have for years with good results and oil pressure holds well when hot.

Thanx Robert

Fred, I just went out to the garage and checked and at present it is the Formula 1 20W50 that I am using. I know I have used the Supreme in the past and that is what I must have been thinking. I can picture the red container in my mind. I guess both have worked well for me. Sorry for any confusion.

Juat got off the phone with Shell Canada, they make the Rotella T 15 W 40 and Motomaster Diesel 15 W 40 oil.

The Rotella T in Canada has 1200 PPMs, of Zinc, just to let anyone know, not sure if that is as it used to be or not.

Castrol GTX 20 W 50, has very little ZDDP in it, as per modern standards, but this has been like this for years. The Castol Syntec has a minimum of 1200 PPMs of ZDDP included in it's blend.

The Motomaster oil I am waitning for a call on how much Zinc it has....Fred

They are made by either Shell or Esso
