Water pump

Recommended Posts

Willis-there was a long thread on this awhile ago that should answer any of your questions. I know that both the internally and the externally bypass style pumps are available through NAPA and probably most other automotive chains. Check out the attached link, and see which type you need. Mike

Willis,

Can you see where it is leaking from? If it is leaking around the shaft, try a little marine grease at the zerk fitting -- they sell the stuff at WalMart.

It may be leaking around one of the drivers' side bolt threads. If this is the case, changing the pump may not fix the issue. Several of the bolts that attach the pump to the block thread into the water jacket, and must have sealer on the threads.

I know it is very had to see in the area. You may need to pull the radiator to find where it is leaking from. If course, if the pump needs replacing, you'll need to pull the radiator anyway to get it off, unoess you're built like a weasel, or something special like that.

I'd pressuize the radiator wirh just a few pounds pressure, and get underneath with a light and try to find the source of the leak first thing, were I doing the job. JMHO
