On my 265 they have the heater tube that comes out on the top of the water pump--the tube has an extension on it---do I need to have this. I have made my own tube that has two nipples coming from it---one for the heater and one for the water heat for the intake. By not having the extended tube affect water flow? Thanks.....Lee

I am not sure I understand your question. The tube on top of the water pump will return hot water to the top of the radiator. There should be another connection on the rear passanger side of the head. This is the hot water connection that goes to the cabin heater and can also be used as a hot water supply to your aftermarket intake manifold.

You need to connect two lines from the back of the head one going to the cabin heater and the other going to your maniflod. Then the return line from your cabin heater and the return line from your intake manifold both need to connect to the top of the water pump. Having or not having an extended tube on top of the water pump connection should have minimum effect on water flow.

Just wanted to know for sure---the extension goes about three inches down on the inside--if it isn`t needed why did they put it on in the first place? I agree that it really shouldn`t make any difference, just wanted to make sure. I made two of these double feed nipples--one for the rear of the block and one on the water pump. My intension is to run constant flow for the intake off one line and the other for the heater, of which I will have an inline shut off. The old heater set up was real big and interfered with the intake and carbs. I went with a small heater core and fan motor off a 40 Olds---it fits nice under the dash and will give me what I need for heat in the early spring--late fall.........thanks guys for your input........Lee

any pics? I am in the process of making an intake heat set up....
all i used were the old fittings that screwed into the head and water pump. I drilled a big enough hole into them and put a 3/8 nipple on each and brazed them in place. The old fitting is good for the 5/8 heater hose and the new brazed piece is for the water heat on the intake. Good luck
