Door latch/door adjustment?

Ever since I got my coupe the pass door has had issues shutting. I finally got around to installing the new used door latch and the matching piece that goes on the pillar. My old ones were both quite worn on that oval shaped piece. After installing the new pieces the door shuts quite well. What I need to know is how to I check to make sure everything is proper so the new ones don't get worn out like the last ones.
