coW52Dodge Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 (edited) I'm posting this because I couldn't find a definitive answer here. Maybe it will help someone in the future. I got a new ring in the other day so struggled for two hours in trying to get the horn button off on my 52 1/2 ton as my horn ring is pretty much gone. After some farting around, come to find out the entire horn ring and button comes off by pushing down on the thing and turning it towards the right. The button is held into the horn ring with screws from the bottom of the ring. Unfortunately, my new ring isn't quite a drop-in fit: The spokes are under different angles and it is of slightly larger diameter but it will look alright. The tabs on the bottom are different as well. I can probably make it work with some grinding of the tabs at the bottom of this replacement. It will be better than the one I have now. desoto1939 Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 Here is a little bit of warning and advise. If you ever need to put in a new horn button wire You need to be very careful. If you disconnect the HB wire at the end of the steering tube do not pull out the wire util you have attached a piece of string or small gage wire ( I prefer a very thin gage wire) to the end of the horn button wire. this needs to be taped together. Then you can pullthe wire up the steering tube, Pull very slowly so that the string or other wire does not seperate at the end. When the string come out at the top of the tube then you retabe the new wire to string and you can pullthe wire back down thrught the steering tube. The hole is very small at then end of the sterring tube and it you do not do this you will have a very hard time gettin gthe new wire to come out the other end of the steering tube. I had to do this on my 39 Desoto. Alwasy look at the situation before you take something apart especially if you are not a mechanic or hav enot done the repair before. remember not to be in a hurry because you will get bite in the rear end. Take your time. rich hartung desoto1939@aol.com Quote
Bob_Koch Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 Take good care of that horn ring. There's a new one on ebay right now, currently priced at $238.17 and bidding hasn't closed yet. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220413684128 Quote
townwagon Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 That does not look like the truck horn ring, that is most likely why you are having fit problems. Also the horn button for a horn blow ring is different from the standard button. You need both the horn ring, and the correct button, at least for the Dodge Truck application. Eric Quote

I had no idea what they looked like since mine doesn't have one. It was cheap so couldn't let it go and actually have two of these things. The button appears to fit but will likely require some creativity in attaching it to the ring. The ring has some ribs that will need to be ground down to make the ring fit inside the steering wheel. It will certainly look 100% better than what is currently in place. ..Unless, of course, someone is willing to trade a truck ring for both of mine... Edited May 19, 2009 by coW52Dodge Quote
