greg g Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 doesn't sound familiar, can you post a oic of the number stamping and some of the engine? Quote
48mirage Posted May 16, 2009 Author Report Posted May 16, 2009 Not mine. Contact at the Coronet Forum is trying to identify source of engine. He thought mid to late '50's. I thought by this time the Coronet was only available with the V8. Quote
B-Watson Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 Can someone decipher these engine numbers from a 230(?) motor?KDS6*15908 Thanks It's a 1957 (K) Dodge or DeSoto six-cylinder engine - 230.6-cid, 14,908th built. When the 1957 Dodge went into production, the 6-cylinder engine numbers started with "D72", for the Coronet 6. All the eight cylinder engines used prefix "KDS" - K for 1957, D for Dodge and S for DeSoto. The 1957 DeSoto Firesweep used Dodge poly engines. On January 10, 1957, the engine prefix on the six changed from "D72" to "KDS6", starting at number 9601. About that time DeSoto began building six cylinder DeSoto Firesweep sedans for use as taxis. 139 6-cylinder 1957 DeSoto Firesweep taxis were built. For 1958 all Mopar engine number prefixes began with "L" for 1958, although the Fury was "FL". The Coronet was available with a six right to the end in 1959. Bill Vancouver, BC Quote
