The 47 is at the paint shop, so in about two week the reconstruction will continue. Going to 12 volt, so does anyone have the bulb cross referance needed as well as what to do for the gas gauge?

I just took the bulbs into the auto parts place and told them I wanted all the same size bulbs in 12v. The only special ones are the rear tail lamps, as they do not have the staggered pins like the standard 1157 bulbs have. You have to put them in the correct position or you will get the brake fillament comming on with the tail lights.

The only bulb that I've had issue with is the high beam indicator light. I have the lowest wattage bulb I could find, and it is still too bright at night. I think I'm going to mist the inside of the green lens with some paint to cut the glare...

I used a Runtz ($19 from Speedway) for the gas gauge.

I just hooked up the gas gauge and its been working fine for four or five years.

If you haven't already, you should consider adding brake light / turn signals to the running lights on the rear. Its really a safety factor.

change out the rear sockets to modern 1157 ones and also the front park/turn if you have turn signals much eaiser than trying to jimmy the bulb in the wrong socket.

If you don't want to change out the sockets, you can buy 12v dual filament bulbs that don't have staggered pins. I have them in my car and they work just like any other bulb, other than the need to insert them so that the correct filament comes on with the brake lights.

Hey Mark,

I searched for one a few months ago and found one. Try this link. It worked great for me and I was able to go to the auto parts store and get what I needed.

I used 1156 for the front parklights and rear center stop lamp. 1157 dual filament for the rear taillights/brakelights. Forgot what I used for dash lights, etc, but check this chart it will give you the number.

Also I used a Runtz for the gas gauge. Bought it from speedway. I also purchased the voltage reducer for the heater blower motor. I tried it this past weekend and it works good. They are both listed on the page linked below.

Pete, i have never sen those bulbs. no staggered pins eh?

Yup, the pins are straight across. I can't remember the number now, but someone posted it on the forum a few months ago... I think it may be 1176, but I'd have to check...

...purchased the voltage reducer for the heater blower motor...

I found a direct replacement 12v blower motor that works on the P20 heater and defroster, if you don't want to run the voltage reducers. Might also be the same for the P15.

You can read all about it by clicking here, part numbers, etc.

I forgot about that Pete. If I have any troubles with mine I'll have to keep that in mind. Right now I use the heater about one month out of the year. Usually October, after that the car sits in the garage until around March.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the links.

Any idea how much amperage the Runtz reducer can handle?

Not sure Dan. I've only got it on my fuel gauge. I'd say not much because in the instructions it advises not to use on any electric motor. Just small electrical items like gauges and the like.
