I am looking for a disk Brake Conversion that will work with original style steel wheels. I am using some old 16" Ford Wheels that has a little more clearance inside than the Plymouth Wheels that came on the car. I have 12.5 inches of clearance measured across the inside of the wheel where it sets on the hub. The Guy at ECI told me I need 13.25 inches for his Kit. This seems like a lot. I measured every vehicle I have and none of them were near this big. The People at Plydo didn't know how much room I need for their Kit. If anyone could tell me the diameter of their Kit including the Rotor it will be a big help.

I don't know the clearance measurement but I have the AAJ Brakes set-up on both my front and rear wheels on my '41 P12. I use my original wheels with no problems.

ECI's kit uses the larger GM calipers and GM rotors drilled to Mopar bolt pattern. That's probably why it sounds like a lot of clearance needed. I believe the PlyDo kit uses the smaller Mopar or GM calipers, so you don't need as much room. Don Coatney has the PlyDo kit on his car with 15" wheels on it. He did buy new modern wheels though. But....I believe he said he could have used the original wheels if he had wanted to. Might check with him. I think you can also use the old wheels with OldDaddy's kit. I know he recently said he wouldn't be making more kits, but he did have some kits already made for sale.

I have the Plydo kit on my '52 Dodge with original 15" wheels. No clearance problems at all. Have a Ford explorer rear end with disc brakes and had to do a very small amount of grinding on caliper on one side only.

I have Charlie's kit (He's 'olddaddy' here and on the HAMB). It works fine with my 16" stock wheels. It uses Volare discs, no clearance issues on the wheels at all. Only clearance issues were with the steering, and that is to be expected and adjusted for during the install.
