John Burke Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 As if I don't have enough problems, for some reason the disc brake caliper assemblies I put on the 49 Dodge won't return after using the brakes..I have a firewall mounted, dual chamber master cylinder with a power booster from Speedway. I did not have this problem with the old drum set I took off....any suggestions welcome:( ...John Quote
Paul Beard Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 Check and see if the master cylinder has a one way check valve. Said valve does not let fluid back into the master cylinder. Quote
rearview Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Also, make sure the rod from the booster to the MC is allowing the MC to return full stroke. Quote
claybill Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 some of the calipers are made in china... they look the same, but have some slight differences... like the bleeder screw is located differently and will not allow 100% air bleeding in some installations....(it cost me $1200 to find this out!) to get full air bleeding the caliper must be bench bled then installed on disc. this info may help.. bill Quote
woodscavenger Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 I agree with rearview about checking the pedal return. If the rod cannot come back fully the brake system will remain pressurized. I had to fiddle with this a little when I built my custom dual chamber MC setup. Quote
billwillard Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 You can't bench bleed a caliper. You can however put a caliper on the wrong side and they won't bleed. The bleed hole must be at the top and if not you have them on the wrong side. Bill Quote
mikesinky Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 if you have old brake hoses sometimes they will pinch off on the return and wont allow the fluid to go back to mc. Quote
John Burke Posted April 2, 2009 Author Report Posted April 2, 2009 It was'nt the push rod to the master cylinder..exactly...but rather that small nubbin between the booster unit and the MC.....we shortened that baby and they work great now....John:D Quote
