Jim Shepard Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 Regarding this car, what's the parts availability, particularly body panels. Does anyone make reproduction/replacement rocker panels, floorboards, trunck floors, etc.? What about trim pieces? How 'bout the top bows and other pieces? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Probably the most difficult thing to find would be the top bows, as they are real model specific. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Is it a first-series or second-series '49?? Quote
John Reddie Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Excellent point Harold. This is important but both models are probably rare as far as parts cars go. Would the P15 convertible frames be a little easier to find as the produced so many of them? John Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Doubtful, as I've been looking around here---none that I can locate. One guy actually had a 47 Plym top frame for several years....no one ever needed it.....he finally got tired of looking at it.....and threw it onto a trailer load of other junk he was taking to the dump or the scrap metal place last year. Of course, I asked about the same item 6 months too late. I was asking as a fellow in Canada needs one. That would be the same as the first series 49.....which looks just like the 46-48 models. Quote
Jim Shepard Posted March 7, 2009 Author Report Posted March 7, 2009 Is it a first-series or second-series '49?? If the second series looks like a '50 then this is a first series. It has the ribbed bumpers... Quote
JerseyHarold Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Ribbed bumpers were unique to the second-series '49 (P-18 series). The P-18's had little chrome mini-fins that house the taillights. Also, the P-15's have a separate starter button and the P-18 has 'turn-key' starting with the ignition lock to the left of the steering wheel. Can you post a picture? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 First Series '49 model......just like 46,47 & 48. Second series '49........ 1950 Plymouth Quote
pflaming Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 I really like the '50/51 two door sedan. Very practical and roomy yet a bit sporty. I had a fastback but still prefer the Tudor. There is a nice four door sedan just outside of town for $3,000. It is road ready. Is that a fair price? Quote
JerseyHarold Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 Assuming it's a California rust-free example, that price sounds like it is in the ballpark. I would have the car looked-at on lift to make sure the brake system is intact and that the tires aren't dry-rotted. Then, of course, a little friendly dickering might save you some money on the purchase price. Let us know how you make out. Quote
